Why Liverpool’s bid for Federico Chiesa makes sense

Liverpool Football Club has expressed interest in Italian winger Federico Chiesa for a fee around €15 million (£12.7m; $16.7m) due to the player only having a year left on his contract as they consider strengthening their squad in the final days of the transfer window.

The 26-year-old, currently playing for Juventus, has become a target for Liverpool as they seek to add depth to their attacking lineup.

Juventus is reportedly open to the possibility of transferring Chiesa, who has been with the club since 2020. Initially joining on loan from Fiorentina, Chiesa’s move to Juventus was made permanent in 2022.

During his time in Turin, Chiesa has shown his potential, particularly during the 2020-2021 season when he was instrumental in both Serie A and the UEFA Champions League. However, his progress was hampered by a serious knee injury that sidelined him for several months.

Despite these setbacks, Chiesa remains a highly regarded player, known for his speed, skill, and ability to play in multiple attacking positions. Juventus, facing financial considerations and a desire to reshape their squad, is exploring options for his transfer, making him available on the market.

Liverpool is exploring the possibility of bringing Chiesa to Anfield, assessing the financial terms and the player’s interest in moving to the Premier League. Chiesa is reportedly keen on the idea of playing in England and for Chiesa, a move to Liverpool could represent a significant career opportunity. It would give him the chance to prove himself in one of the most challenging football environments.
