The Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Mission in Nigeria, Keith Heffern, has expressed admiration for Nigerian music stars Rema and Burna Boy, highlighting the global impact of Afrobeats.
Speaking during the U.S. 250th Independence Day Celebration, Heffern noted that he particularly enjoyed watching the artists perform during the FIFA World Cup events. He added that Rema’s track “Goals” would serve as the anthem for the U.S. team during their tournament matches.
“Afrobeats has become a worldwide phenomenon, with artists from Nigeria now topping charts in the United States and around the world,” Heffern stated.
The envoy also compared the success of contemporary Nigerian music to the legacy of Motown, describing the iconic American record label as a powerful reminder of music’s international influence and the enduring creative connections between the United States and Nigeria.
