Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, on Wednesday swore in Justice Christine Ende as a Judge of the Benue State High Court, describing her appointment as a boost to the state’s justice system.
Speaking at the ceremony, Alia said Justice Ende’s elevation reflected her decades of service and contributions to the legal profession and public administration.
He said her experience across legal practice, judicial administration, human rights advocacy, and public service had adequately prepared her for the responsibilities of the Bench.
“The appointment of Hon. Justice Ende is a significant milestone in the administration of justice in Benue State. Her distinguished career and vast experience testify to her competence, integrity, and preparedness for this important judicial responsibility,” the governor said.
Alia noted that Justice Ende had served in various capacities, including at the African Bank, the National Human Rights Commission, and the Federal High Court, where she held roles such as Deputy Chief Registrar and Admiralty Marshal.
He disclosed that her appointment increased the number of High Court judges in the state from 32 to 33, and female judges from 13 to 14.
The governor described the development as part of his administration’s commitment to inclusivity and gender balance in leadership.
“Our administration remains committed to the ‘he for she’ philosophy because sustainable development can only be achieved when women are given equal opportunities,” he said.
Alia urged the new judge to uphold fairness, independence, and integrity in the discharge of her duties.
“The judiciary remains the last hope of the common man. I urge you to ensure that public confidence in the justice system is strengthened,” he added.
He also commended the National Judicial Council (NJC), the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), and the state judiciary for their roles in the appointment process, assuring continued support for justice delivery in the state.
