Chelsea have confirmed the signing of highly-rated Portuguese winger Geovany Quenda from Sporting Lisbon, with the 19-year-old putting pen to paper on a long-term contract that runs until 2034.
The Premier League club confirmed the deal in an official statement on Wednesday, describing Quenda as one of the brightest young talents in European football after his breakthrough spell with Sporting.
Quenda arrives at Stamford Bridge following an outstanding campaign in which he helped Sporting Lisbon win the Portuguese league and cup double. He was also named the Primeira Liga Young Player of the Season in 2025.
“It feels great to be here,” Quenda said after completing the move.
“Chelsea is a great team and I am excited to play here at Stamford Bridge. The club has shown faith in players like me and I am proud to be here, proud to be part of this club.
“I am excited to work with my team-mates and the manager, Xabi Alonso. I’m a very hard-working young person and I like to help my team. I want to be someone known for having the right mentality to help my team-mates and who does their best for the club to win trophies.”
Quenda enjoyed a rapid rise at Sporting, making 86 appearances across all competitions in two seasons. He became the club’s youngest-ever goalscorer and also the youngest Portuguese player to score in the UEFA Champions League.
The teenage winger has also represented Portugal at Under-21 level and was named in the Team of the Tournament at the 2025 UEFA European Under-21 Championship.
Chelsea will begin their 2026/27 Premier League campaign with an away fixture against Fulham on August 24.
