ABAKALIKI— In what is being described as one of the most comprehensive private developmental interventions in the region this year, the Eleemosy Empowerment & Relief Foundation has officially handed over a newly reconstructed primary school and vital public infrastructure to the Iziola Ndiebor Ishieke Community in Ebonyi Local Government Area.
The massive intervention, commissioned over the weekend on Sunday, May 31, 2026, marks a significant shift in rural development, demonstrating how private sector leaders are actively complementing government efforts to bridge infrastructural deficits in historically underserved communities.
The infrastructural upgrade went far beyond standard educational support. The foundation, funded and directed by tech entrepreneur and corporate executive Mr. Cornelius Oroke, constructed six brand-new classroom blocks and an administrative office at the Iziola Ndiebor Ishieke Community Nursery & Primary School. Furthermore, the project fully reconstructed three existing, dilapidated classroom blocks to modern standards.
To ensure a comprehensive learning environment, the foundation equipped the school with 100 modern classroom lockers, whiteboards, and administrative furniture. Pupils were also provided with essential educational materials, including school bags, books, and footwear, effectively removing the immediate financial barriers to early education for hundreds of rural families.
The intervention also tackled broader socio-economic challenges within the agrarian community. Prior to the project, poor road networks and a lack of electricity severely limited the community’s economic potential. To address this, the Eleemosy Foundation graded a 4-kilometer access road connecting the community and installed over 100 solar streetlights at strategic locations, immediately improving local security and extending commercial hours for rural traders.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Mr. Cornelius Oroke, President of the Foundation and CEO of PaxalPay, emphasized the critical link between foundational education, accessible infrastructure, and long-term economic mobility.
Oroke noted that while Ebonyi State historically struggled with educational disadvantages driven by rural poverty and cultural apathy, successive state governments have driven a massive sectoral transformation, positioning the state as an emerging educational hub in the southeast.
“The goal of the Eleemosy Foundation is to aggressively complement these governmental efforts,” Oroke stated. “Poverty and a lack of basic infrastructure in remote areas like Iziola Ndiebor Ishieke can stifle the brightest minds. By rebuilding this school and opening up the access roads, we are not just donating buildings; we are laying down the structural foundation for the next generation of leaders. We urge other corporate leaders and philanthropists to recognize that rural empowerment is a collective responsibility.”
The scale of the project drew the attention of high-profile stakeholders and political leaders across the state, adding significant validation to the foundation’s grassroots impact.
The commissioning ceremony was graced by prominent dignitaries, including the former Minister of State for Power & Steel, Chief Godwin Ogbaga; former federal lawmaker, Hon. Barr. Elizabeth Ogbaga; Chief Chris Ulchaji; and Chief Barr. Onyekachi Nwebonyi. Accompanied by traditional community leaders and government stakeholders, the dignitaries lauded Oroke’s commitment to utilizing private resources for systemic public good.
While handing over the facilities, Oroke appealed to the residents and community leaders to take full ownership of the newly installed infrastructure, ensuring their maintenance and protection to serve future generations.
