Delta North Senator, Ede Dafinone, has expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future, declaring that the country will emerge stronger and better despite current economic and social challenges if citizens remain united, patient, and committed to democratic ideals.
In his Democracy Day message on June 12, 2026, the lawmaker called on Nigerians to sustain their faith in democracy, support ongoing reforms by President Bola Tinubu, and actively participate in the nation’s democratic process.
Dafinone described June 12 as a historic reminder of the sacrifices made by Nigerians in the struggle for democratic governance, justice, and national development.
“As we commemorate Democracy Day and mark another significant milestone in our nation’s democratic journey, I extend my warm felicitations to the good people of Delta Central Senatorial District and all Nigerians,” he stated.
According to him, “June 12 remains a historic symbol of the sacrifices, resilience, and collective determination of Nigerians in the pursuit of democratic governance, justice, and national development. It is a day that reminds us of the enduring power of the people’s will and the importance of preserving the democratic ideals for which many patriots laboured and sacrificed.”
The Senator noted that although Nigeria continued to face economic and social difficulties, democracy remains the most viable system for guaranteeing accountability, citizen participation, and peaceful political transitions.
Reflecting on the country’s democratic journey since 1999, Dafinone said Nigeria had recorded significant progress despite numerous obstacles.
“Nigeria’s democratic journey since 1999 has been one of steady progress and growth despite the numerous challenges we have encountered along the way. While our nation may be grappling with economic and social difficulties, like many other nations, we must remain steadfast in our commitment to democracy as the best form of government,” he said.
He added that, “Democracy provides the platform for accountability, participation, and peaceful change, and we must never allow temporary setbacks to diminish our faith in the democratic process. As a people, we must continue to nurture and strengthen the institutions that sustain our democracy.”
The Delta Central Senator also appealed to Nigerians to support President Tinubu’s administration as it pursued economic reforms aimed at repositioning the country for sustainable growth and prosperity.
“I urge all Nigerians to continue to support and pray for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as it implements critical reforms aimed at repositioning our country for greater prosperity, economic stability, and sustainable development,” he said.
While acknowledging the temporary hardships associated with some of the government’s policies, Dafinone maintained that the long-term benefits were already becoming evident.
“Though some of the ongoing economic policies may require patience and sacrifice, the signs of long-term transformation are evident. With unity, perseverance, and collective commitment, Nigeria will emerge stronger and better positioned to fulfil its immense potential,” he stated.
The lawmaker further used the occasion to encourage greater civic participation among Nigerians, particularly residents of Delta Central, stressing that democracy flourishes when citizens actively engage in governance through voting and other democratic processes.
He urged eligible citizens to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
“As we celebrate this year’s Democracy Day, I particularly call on the people of Delta Central to take active roles in the democratic process. Democracy thrives when citizens participate fully, especially through voting and civic engagement,” he said.
“With the Continuous Voter Registration exercise ongoing, I encourage all eligible citizens who are yet to register to seize this opportunity to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). The future of our nation depends on the choices we make, and every vote remains a powerful instrument for shaping good governance and leadership.”
Dafinone also expressed gratitude to the people of Delta Central for their continued support and confidence in his representation at the Senate, while commending their backing of the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, he urged the people of the senatorial district to remain politically united and strategically positioned within the nation’s mainstream political structure.
“I sincerely thank the people of Delta Central for the trust, support, and confidence they have continued to place in me as their representative in the Senate. I also appreciate your support for the government of Delta State under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and for our great party, the APC,” he said.
He added that, “As we look ahead to the 2027 elections, Delta Central must remain strategically positioned at the centre of national politics and development. We cannot afford to be spectators in the affairs that shape our future or return to opposition politics. Let us remain united, committed, and supportive of the APC as the mainstream platform for advancing the interests of our people and building a stronger, more prosperous Nigeria.”
