The federal government is to establish a National Sports Commission office in Kwara State to take advantage of the state-of-the-art sporting facilities provided by the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Coach Bola Magaji, disclosed this in Ilorin while speaking at the unveiling of a book titled: “The Sardauna of Ilorin in the Eyes of History,” written in honour of Governor AbdulRazaq by a senior journalist , Biodun AbdulKareem.
Magaji said officials of the National Sports Commission visited the state about three weeks ago to assess the state-of-the-art sporting facilities provided by the AbdulRazaq administration over the past seven years.
He said the officials were impressed by the facilities at the Kwara State Stadium Complex and indicated that a National Sports Commission office would be established in the state.
Magaji added that the stadium complex now boasts one of the best squash court facilities in the world.
He noted that Kwara contingents to various national and international sporting competitions are now winning medals in sports in which the state had previously not recorded such achievements.
In his remarks, the Special Adviser and Counsellor to the Governor, Alh Saadu Salahu , said the footprints of Governor AbdulRazaq in governance, politics and youth development, as well as his contributions to national development, would continue to be referenced for decades to come.
“We believe that in the next 50 years, his legacies will continue to serve as a reference point for politicians and others in the state,” Salahu said.
