Flamingos, Japan Captains Face Off As U-17 World Cup Final Beckons

Nigeria’s Chidera Harmony Chidi and Japan captain Honoka Yotsumoto have come face to face with the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup trophy ahead of Saturday’s historic final in Rabat, Morocco.

The two captains represented their countries at a pre-final trophy photo opportunity as preparations intensified for the tournament decider at the Mohammed VI Football Complex.

The final, scheduled for 18:30 local time on Saturday, 7 November, will see Nigeria’s Flamingos chase their first-ever title against two-time finalists Japan.

Nigeria have already made history by becoming the first African country to reach the final of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

The Flamingos secured their place in the showpiece match with an impressive 3-1 victory over Brazil in the second semi-final, surpassing their previous best finish of third place in 2022.

Japan, however, will provide a formidable challenge, having won the competition in 2014 and finished runners-up in 2010 and 2016.

The Asian side booked their place in the final after overcoming defending champions DPR Korea on penalties following a 1-1 draw in the first semi-final.

Saturday’s encounter will therefore present Nigeria with an opportunity to become the first African nation to win the tournament, while Japan seek to add a second title to their collection.

Before the final, DPR Korea and Brazil will contest the third-place match, which kicks off at 15:00 local time.

FIFA confirmed that tickets for both matches are available through its official ticketing platform, subject to availability.
