A 32-year-old security guard, Abraham Anelka, has been arrested by the police in Ogun State over the alleged defilement of a 16- year-old girl at Abule-Ijoko area of the state.
The command’s Spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement in Abeokuta yesterday.
Babaseyi said detectives from Agbado Division arrested the suspect in connection with alleged defilement, criminal intimidation and attempted robbery.
He said the incident was reported at Agbado Division on June 10 by a family member of the victim who alleged that on the night of 9 June, the teenage girl on her way home was accosted by the suspect.
“He said the suspect, armed with a locally made single-barrel gun, allegedly threatened the girl before forcibly taking her to his residence at Abule-Ijoko, where he had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.
“Upon receipt of the complaint, detectives of Agbado Division immediately launched a coordinated response and the suspect was promptly tracked, arrested, and the firearm allegedly used in the commission of the crime was recovered.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly had unlawful carnal knowledge of the minor without her consent and further attempted to dispossess her of her belongings,” the spokesman said.
Babaseyi said that the scene of the incident was also visited as part of investigative procedures, adding the victim was thereafter issued a medical form and taken to a hospital for medical examination and treatment.
He said that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for discreet and comprehensive investigation, while the suspect remains in custody pending the conclusion of the investigation and subsequent prosecution.
