SOKOTO — The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State has hailed the progress of democratic governance in the state and across Nigeria, attributing recent achievements in development, security and public service delivery to the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, Governor Ahmed Aliyu and Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.
Speaking with journalists in Sokoto on Democracy Day, the APC Zonal Chairman for Sokoto East Senatorial District, Alhaji Muhammad Musa, described the state’s democratic journey as a success story driven by responsive leadership, people-centred policies and a commitment to citizens’ welfare.
According to him, Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration has continued to deliver democratic dividends through infrastructure development, social intervention programmes and security support initiatives aimed at improving residents’ lives.
“As we celebrate Democracy Day, we have every reason to appreciate the progress recorded in Sokoto State. The government has remained focused on fulfilling its promises to the people, while democratic institutions continue to grow stronger,” Musa said.
He credited Senator Wamakko’s leadership for fostering unity within the APC and strengthening democratic participation across the state.
“The peaceful emergence of APC candidates and the stability within the party are clear indications that democracy is working. Our people have continued to support the APC because they can see the impact of good governance,” he added.
On security challenges in Sokoto East, Musa acknowledged that concerns persist but noted that government interventions and community-based efforts have strengthened the fight against insecurity in affected communities.
“Security remains our priority in Sokoto East. We have seen genuine commitment from both the state and federal governments in addressing the challenges confronting our communities,” he said.
The APC chieftain also commended the humanitarian efforts of Alhaji Umar Ajiyan-Isa, a senatorial aspirant in the zone, describing him as a grassroots-oriented leader whose interventions have complemented government efforts in community development and humanitarian assistance.
According to Musa, Ajiyan-Isa has donated more than 250 bags of assorted grains and financial support to internally displaced persons (IDPs) across the district. He said the politician also provided food items and N2 million in cash assistance to families affected by a security attack in Gandi community, Rabah Local Government Area.
Musa further disclosed that Ajiyan-Isa had distributed 1,000 maternity delivery kits to general hospitals across the eight local government areas of the senatorial district to support pregnant women and help reduce maternal mortality.
“The initiative is aimed at reducing maternal mortality and supporting pregnant women, especially those from low-income households who struggle to access quality healthcare services,” he explained.
He added that the aspirant had also supported party mobilisation efforts by providing operational vehicles and motorcycles to party structures across the zone to strengthen grassroots engagement.
Musa said the cumulative value of Ajiyan-Isa’s humanitarian and community development interventions amounted to several millions of naira.
Expressing confidence in the APC’s prospects, he predicted that the party would secure overwhelming victories in the 2027 general elections across Sokoto East and other parts of the state.
“The APC remains firmly rooted among the people because of its commitment to development, security and social welfare. We are optimistic that the electorate will continue to support the party and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu,” he said.
He urged Nigerians to use Democracy Day as an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made in the struggle for democratic rule and to support leaders committed to national unity, peace and sustainable development.
“Democracy thrives when citizens actively participate in governance and hold leaders accountable. As a nation, we must continue to strengthen our democratic institutions for the benefit of future generations,” Musa added.
