Nigerian entrepreneur, brand influencer and Internet personality, May Edochie, has voiced her concern over rising insecurity in Nigeria, especially the growing cases of kidnapping and bandit attacks.
Her remarks come amid public protests and widespread outrage following the reported abduction of pupils and teachers in Oyo State.
In an Instagram post shared on June 6, May said she does not believe the Nigerian government cannot tackle the problem.
The mother of three argued that the authorities have the means to address the crisis. However, she questioned why ordinary Nigerians continue to suffer the consequences of insecurity.
She wrote:
“I strongly do not believe the Nigerian government is incompetent in dealing with kidnapping and banditry. The government is aware of the problem and has the capacity to address it effectively. The question remains: Why must innocent citizens continue to suffer the devastating consequences of insecurity?”
May Edochie spoke about the fear many families live with every day. She also highlighted the trauma affecting communities and said insecurity is discouraging many Nigerians abroad from returning home.
She said Nigerians deserve more than promises. According to her, people want real action that restores safety and gives them hope.
The actress pointed to Nigeria’s response to Ebola and COVID-19 as evidence of what can be achieved through swift action and teamwork.
She further argued that Nigeria has the resources and expertise to tackle banditry and kidnapping. She urged the government to take decisive steps to address the crisis.
“Nigeria demonstrated remarkable capacity during the Ebola outbreak and the COVID-19 pandemic. These experiences showed that when there is urgency, coordination, and commitment, Nigeria can respond effectively to major national crises.
“This is a call on the government to apply the same level of determination, coordination, and strategic action to the fight against kidnapping, bandits, and insecurity,” she added.
