The spokesperson for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election campaign council, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has dismissed allegations of misuse of Amotekun Corps by the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing them as false and politically motivated.
Olajengbesi made the remarks in a statement issued on Tuesday while responding to claims by the opposition concerning the governor’s handling of security votes and the operations of the Amotekun Corps in the State.
“It is on record that Governor Adeleke has never taken security votes since he assumed office in 2022. The opposition knows this but bitterness won’t allow them acknowledge the truth,” Olajengbesi said.
“Unlike the selfish administrations of the APC in Osun State, Governor Adeleke has demonstrated unparallel magnanimity in the deployment of his security votes to address security concerns in the state.”
He also refuted allegations that the governor deployed the state-owned security outfit to protect family business interests, maintaining that state resources have been managed in a responsible and strategic manner.
“The governor has also been selfless, tactical and strategic in the deployment of state apparatus and resources,” he stated.
Olajengbesi further pointed to what he described as independent recognition of the administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
“Governor Adeleke’s unbeatable financial transparency has been acknowledged by many independent organisations including civic organisation BudgIT Nigeria which scored Governor Adeleke administration 100% in its 2025 Third Quarter Fiscal Transparency Report for exceptional financial accountability and transparency,” he said.
Highlighting efforts to strengthen security in the state, he noted that the administration had constructed a new operational headquarters for the Amotekun Corps and recruited more than 1,100 additional cadets.
“First, the governor built a befitting operational headquarters for the Amotekun Corps and just last year, the governor added over 1,100 new Amotekun cadets to boost internal security in the state.
“These cadets are fresh injection into the already populated Amotekun Corps in Osun State. Hundreds of operational vehicles and motorcycles were also added to the fleet of the Amotekun Corps for the security of the lives of the good people of Osun State.”
He further argued that the administration had maintained a strong record on workers’ welfare, including the prompt payment of salaries.
“It is also on record that the administration of Governor Adeleke has never owed any civil servant in the state including Amotekun Corps cadets a single salary. The welfare of workers has always been his priority. This cannot be said of the past APC government in Osun State notorious for owing workers’ salaries and treating civil servants with disdain.”
Olajengbesi also criticised a member of the House of Representatives, Wole Oke, questioning his record in office and accusing him of spreading misinformation about Governor Adeleke.
“Of note, Governor Adeleke has been forthright and judicious with the state resources. Unlike Wole Oke, a grandpa in the House of Representatives who has no constituency project to show for, even 24 years after his stay in the green chamber. The media should rather not give characters such as Oke attention. Journalists should quiz him on his achievements as federal lawmaker for 24 unbroken years.
“The falsehood and dark propaganda spun by Wole Oke are unfortunate and rather becoming unbecoming of a federal lawmaker who is supposed to be of honourable conduct.”
He urged the APC to refrain from dragging the Amotekun Corps into political disputes, stressing that the security outfit should remain focused on addressing security challenges across the state.
“The APC in Osun should not distract the Amotekun Corps already burdened with the security challenges because the Corps refused to be pawns in the hands of political scoundrels.”
Expressing confidence ahead of the forthcoming governorship election, Olajengbesi said residents of the state would support Adeleke’s bid for a second term based on the administration’s record in office.
“The August election is almost here and one thing is certain: the good people of Osun State are defiant, relentless and won’t be coerced by political manipulators who glory in federal might; the good people of Osun State has seen the light in the infrastructural developments and the upgrades of the quality of their lives as catalysed by Governor Adeleke and will return Governor Adeleke for a second term in office.”
