Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has accused suspected political thugs linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC) of carrying out coordinated attacks in parts of the state, calling on security agencies and federal authorities to intervene ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
In a statement posted on his X page on Tuesday, Adeleke condemned the attacks, which he said occurred in Ile-Ife, Ede, Osogbo and other communities across the state.
“I strongly condemn the coordinated attacks carried out by pro-APC political thugs in Ile-Ife, Ede, Osogbo and other parts of our state earlier today,” the governor said.
He warned that political competition should not be allowed to degenerate into violence, stressing that no ambition was worth the loss of lives or injuries to innocent citizens.
“No political ambition is worth the blood, pain, and suffering of innocent citizens,” Adeleke stated.
The governor called on President Bola Tinubu, the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, the Inspector-General of Police, and other security agencies to intervene and prevent a breakdown of law and order in the state.
“I call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Security Adviser, the Inspector General of Police, the DSS, and other security authorities to urgently intervene and call Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and everyone behind these provocations to order before they plunge our dear state into chaos,” he said.
Adeleke disclosed that he visited some of the affected areas and met victims receiving treatment at the Osun State Teaching Hospital in Osogbo and the Cottage Hospital in Ede.
He also said he paid a solidarity visit to the Osogbo Accord chairman who survived a gunshot attack last week.
“I sympathize with all victims and their families. My administration will not abandon them in this difficult moment,” the governor said.
According to him, security agencies have been directed to investigate the incidents and ensure that those responsible are prosecuted irrespective of their political affiliations.
“I have directed security agencies to thoroughly investigate these incidents and ensure that every perpetrator, regardless of status or political affiliation, is brought to justice,” Adeleke stated.
The governor urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring them that additional security measures were being deployed to vulnerable locations across the state.
“Political differences must never degenerate into violence, intimidation, or attacks on citizens exercising their constitutional rights. Democracy thrives on dialogue, tolerance, and respect for the rule of law,” he added.
Osun State is preparing for its governorship election scheduled for August 15, with political activities intensifying across the state.
