UMUAHIA — Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has expressed satisfaction with the pace of work on the construction of a new Governor’s Office and Official Residence in Umuahia, saying the project remains on track for completion before the end of 2026.
Otti made the remarks on Saturday during an inspection of the Government House complex, where the project is being executed as part of the administration’s efforts to modernise the seat of government.
After assessing the level of work done, the governor commended the contractor, Craneburg Construction Company, for maintaining quality standards and urged the firm to sustain the momentum to meet the completion target.
During the visit, Otti undertook a detailed inspection of the facility and received briefings from site engineers on key aspects of the project to ensure compliance with approved specifications.
The new Governor’s Office and Official Residence form part of a broader Government House renewal programme aimed at upgrading public infrastructure and improving administrative efficiency.
Projects already completed within the Government House complex include the renovation of the Deputy Governor’s Office, the construction of a new Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), and the remodelling of the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Protocol Building, and Banquet Hall.
Other ongoing works include the construction of a modern Government House Clinic, a new Government House Gate, and supporting facilities designed to enhance the functionality and appearance of the state’s administrative headquarters.
According to the state government, the renewal project is one of the key infrastructure initiatives of the Otti administration and is intended to provide modern public facilities while strengthening governance operations in Abia State.
Otti assumed office on May 29, 2023, and has indicated his intention to seek a second term in office. Recent endorsements for his re-election bid have come from various political figures, including former Abia State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman and current All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Senator Emma Nwaka, who has publicly expressed support for the governor’s continuation in office.
