IBADAN — The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the abduction of Mrs Busayo Adelabu John-Paul, sister of former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, and her 12-year-old twin sons, describing the incident as a further sign of worsening insecurity in the state.
The party also called on Governor Seyi Makinde to strengthen collaboration with security agencies and other stakeholders to address the rising wave of kidnappings and restore public confidence in the state’s security system.
Mrs John-Paul was reportedly abducted on Wednesday morning in the Elewura–Challenge area of Ibadan by unidentified gunmen.
According to reports, the assailants trailed the vehicle conveying the victims from their residence before intercepting it and forcefully taking them away at about 7:30 a.m.
Reacting in a statement issued in Ibadan by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, the APC expressed concern that the latest incident occurred amid growing anxiety over unresolved abduction cases in the state.
The party noted that residents were already worried over the continued captivity of schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area, as well as two staff members of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) kidnapped in the Idi-Ayunre area of Oluyole Local Government Area.
The statement called on authorities at all levels to urgently review the state’s security architecture and close identified gaps to ensure better protection of lives and property.
It also demanded the immediate rescue of all abducted victims across the affected incidents, including the Oriire school victims, CRIN staff, Mrs John-Paul and her children.
The APC further urged coordinated action by government and security agencies to curb the growing trend of kidnappings and violent attacks in the state, warning that insecurity was becoming increasingly widespread.
The party said the situation required urgent and decisive intervention to safeguard residents and restore a sense of safety across Oyo State.
