Pepe Set For Real Madrid Return As Mourinho Builds New Backroom Team

Former Portugal captain Pepe is poised to make a sensational return to Real Madrid as part of the coaching staff of incoming manager José Mourinho.

Mourinho is expected to be officially unveiled as Real Madrid’s new head coach after club president Florentino Pérez secured victory in the club’s presidential election. Reports indicate that Pérez had already reached an agreement with Benfica for Mourinho’s return before the election process concluded.

According to Spanish outlet Marca, Pepe will join Mourinho’s backroom team at the Santiago Bernabéu, where he is expected to play a key role in strengthening the squad’s defensive mentality and organisation.

The former defender will also be tasked with helping to foster unity within the dressing room and acting as an important link between Mourinho and the players, enhancing communication and cohesion within the squad.

Pepe enjoyed a successful spell with Real Madrid between 2007 and 2017, winning multiple domestic and European honours before leaving the club. He retired from professional football in 2024 and now appears set to begin a new chapter in coaching.

The prospect of Mourinho and Pepe reuniting at the Bernabéu has already generated excitement among supporters, who remember the pair’s successful partnership during one of the club’s most competitive eras.
