A 49-year-old man named Idris Abdullahi has been arrested over the alleged murder of another man after a violent clash in Calabar on Monday.
According to information received on 15 June 2026, the incident “stemmed from an earlier altercation” which broke out between Abdullahi and a group of unidentified street boys along Mary Slessor Road on 14 June 2026.
Police sources said Abdullahi allegedly sustained injuries during that initial confrontation with the youths.
On 15 June, Abdullahi reportedly “traced one of the individuals involved” to Chronicle Barracks Road, opposite Akim Police Barracks.
There, he allegedly chased the young man down and “stabbed the victim with a knife,” according to police accounts.
The injured man was rushed to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, UCTH, for emergency treatment.
Doctors later confirmed him dead, and “the deceased’s body has been deposited at the General Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.”
A statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, Police PPRO, Sunday Akata, confirming the incident, said the suspect would remain in police custody.
At the same time, the case is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, for a thorough investigation and possible prosecution.
