The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the reported death of an Islamic Cleric of the JIBWIS, Alhaj Muhammad Maibarga  in bandits’ captivity in Koko-Besse Local Government Area of the State.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command,  SP Bashir Usman, told our correspondent that the Police is aware of the report concerning  his death while in captivity.

“We are aware of reports concerning the victim’s deteriorating condition and possible death in captivity.”

“While ongoing efforts are being intensified to verify the development and secure the rescue of all kidnapped victims, both from Koko-Besse and Wasagu areas.” He said.

The kidnapping case was not officially announced to the public until the Police later confirmed it through an enquiry from journalists.

The late Islamic cleric was reportedly kidnapped by armed bandits alongside his friend, who is a former APC chairman of Koko/Besse local government area. A video allegedly released by their abductors showed the late deteriorating health conditions before he succumbed to his ailing health in a bandit’s den.

People of his community had since performed funeral prayers called “Ga,ib” for a corpse of a Muslim not at hand.
