The Oyo State Police Command said it has commenced an investigation into the abduction of the younger sister of the immediate-past Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Bayo Adelabu, and her twin sons, who were kidnapped in Ibadan on Wednesday morning.
The command, in a statement issued by its spokesperson, CSP Olayinka Ayanlade, assured residents that all necessary resources had been deployed to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the arrest of those behind the incident.
LEADERSHIP reports that one of Adelabu’s media aides, Femi Awogboro, confirmed the abduction in a statement, identifying the victims as Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul.
According to Awogboro, the victims were abducted at about 7:30 a.m. while Mrs. John-Paul was taking her children to school in Ibadan.
“The family of Adebayo Adelabu, former Minister of Power and leading gubernatorial aspirant of APC in Oyo State, wishes to formally confirm the unfortunate kidnapping of his younger sister, Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, alongside her twin sons, Peter and Paul, in the early hours of Wednesday, June 3, 2026,” he said.
“Mrs. John-Paul, aged 43, was reportedly abducted by armed gunmen at about 7:30 a.m. while on her way to drop her children at school in Ibadan. The abductors also forcefully took away her 12-year-old twin sons who were with her at the time of the incident.”
Awogboro noted that Mrs. John-Paul is the youngest of five children of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu and had previously worked at both the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and First Bank Pension Custodian before her voluntary retirement last year.
Responding to the incident, the police said the Commissioner of Police immediately directed the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Challenge Division and other tactical teams to move to the scene and begin intensive investigations.
“Following the report of the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, immediately directed the Divisional Police Officer, Challenge Division, alongside other tactical teams, to proceed to the scene where the victim’s vehicle was recovered and commence intensive investigations,” the statement read.
“The Command wishes to assure members of the public that all necessary resources have been deployed to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the apprehension of those responsible for this criminal act.
“Investigations are ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.”
The command urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could assist ongoing investigations.
The abduction came weeks after more than 40 teachers and students were kidnapped during an attack on Ahoro-Esiele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
It also recalls the December 2025 abduction of APC chieftain, Wale Oriade, who was kidnapped by armed men in Ibadan in an incident that sparked concerns over insecurity in the state.
