The Osun State Police Command has advised all political parties to suspend political rallies in Oriade Local Government Area, citing credible intelligence and rising security concerns that could trigger violence.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, said the decision became necessary due to the “non-cooperative attitude” of some political actors despite efforts to broker peace.
According to the statement, the suspension is aimed at preventing a breakdown of law and order and safeguarding lives and property in the area.
“This move by the Command is due to non-cooperative attitude of some parties as all efforts by the Command to foster peace ended in a deadlock. This proactive measure is aimed at preventing any breach of peace, maintaining public order, and protecting the lives and property of residents,” the statement read.
The police explained that a peace meeting earlier scheduled with the concerned political parties could not hold, worsening tensions in the locality.
“All political parties, candidates, supporters, followers and members of the public are hereby admonished to take note and comply in the interest of peace,” it added.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a safe environment across the state, urging residents to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security agencies.
