The senior special assistant on Religious Affairs to the Katsina State Governor, Alhaji Ismailil Abdullahi Ibrahim Matazu, has been conferred with the prestigious traditional title of Sarkin Hausawan Sudan by the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Faruk Umar Faruk.
The appointment was conveyed in a letter signed by the emir, who stated that the honour was in recognition of Matazu’s outstanding contributions to the development, unity and welfare of Hausa communities living in Sudan.
According to the Emirate, the title reflects Matazu’s dedication to community service, cultural preservation, and the promotion of peaceful coexistence among Hausa people in the North African country.
In the letter of appointment, the emir commended the governor’s aide for his unwavering commitment to humanitarian causes and his support for both Islamic and Western education. “He has demonstrated remarkable dedication to community service, cultural preservation, and the promotion of peaceful coexistence among Hausa people in Suda,” the Emir stated.
The royal father further described Matazu as a worthy ambassador of Hausa culture and values, whose efforts have strengthened the identity and unity of Hausa communities beyond Nigeria’s borders.
“He stands as a worthy ambassador of Hausa heritage and values beyond the borders of Nigeria,” the Emir added.
The traditional title of Sarkin Hausawan Sudan is widely recognised within the Daura Emirate and among Hausa communities in the diaspora, particularly those residing in Sudan. Observers say the conferment is expected to deepen the relationship between the Daura Emirate and the Hausa communities in Sudan, while promoting cultural identity, social cohesion, and mutual understanding among community members.
The honour also highlights the growing role of traditional institutions in fostering ties with Nigerian communities abroad and recognising individuals who contribute to the preservation of cultural values and community development.
Matazu, who serves as Senior Special Assistant on Religious Affairs to Governor Radda, has been actively involved in religious, educational and humanitarian initiatives within and outside Katsina State.
