Seven students of the Ebonyi State College of Health Science and Technology, Ngbo, in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, have been injured following an armed robbery attack on the institution’s female hostel.

The attack reportedly occurred at about 2 a.m. on Tuesday when suspected robbers invaded the hostel through a bush path and forced their way into students’ rooms.

The attackers were said to have broken down doors and dispossessed the students of cash, mobile phones, power banks, ATM cards and other valuables.

A security source, Ukandu, confirmed the incident, noting that the hostel was vulnerable due to the absence of perimeter fencing and a security post, which made it easy for criminals to gain access through nearby bush paths.

He said police operatives were immediately mobilised to the scene after receiving the distress report, but the suspects had already fled into the bush before their arrival.

According to him, efforts are ongoing to track and arrest the fleeing attackers, while patrol teams have been deployed to the area to prevent further incidents.

He added that the incident was purely an armed robbery case and not banditry, stressing that the attackers targeted students’ valuables.

The injured students are currently receiving treatment at undisclosed hospitals in Ohaukwu and Abakaliki.
