American singer and rapper, Melissa Viviane Jefferson, popularly known as Lizzo, has stated that the industry shift from radio to online streaming is a major reason for changes in her fanbase.
Lizzo made the statement while responding to a fan on the social media platform X, who observed that the singer’s fanbase had decreased over the last two years. The artist explained that she was traditionally a “radio darling,” meaning that a large share of her listeners initially discovered her music through radio rather than digital playlists.
In her post, the singer also claimed that her career has been subjected to deliberate public attacks by saboteurs, which have further impacted her popularity.
“…The industry has changed so much in the last 3 years. streaming replaced radio, and I was a radio darling. That’s how my fans discovered my music. Not to mention the very obvious and public attack on my career changed things.”
According to her, she is doing her best to navigate the changing music landscape and remain successful in the entertainment industry.
