Taraba State government has launched the 2026 Climate-Related Disaster Preparedness and Mitigation Strategy as part of efforts to reduce the impact of flooding and other climate-related disasters across the state during the rainy season.
The commissioner for Special Duties and Humanitarian Services, Hon. Saviour Noku, who stood in for the governor at the launch in Jalingo, applauded SEMA for sustaining grassroots-focused safety awareness campaigns, in line with the national preparedness strategy plan.
Noku said such interventions had continued to save lives, protect livelihoods and enhance community resilience, especially across flood prone communities.
He urged residents to heed early warning messages and adopt preventive measures against anticipated flooding.
The executive secretary of TSEMA, Dr Echuseh Audu, emphasised the need for collective action in tackling climate-related disasters.
Dr. Audu commended the collaboration among traditional institutions and partner agencies, including the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA), the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), the Nigerian Red Cross Society and the Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPADEC) for their support and interventions.
According to her, early warning systems, public awareness campaigns and coordinated emergency responses remain critical to minimising loss of lives and safeguarding livelihoods.
