UMUAHIA — Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Adolphus Wabara, has said that opposition voices in Nigeria cannot be silenced, stressing that democracy depends on the presence of strong and functional political alternatives.
Wabara made the remarks in London during a visit to PDP chieftain and party elder, Bode George, who is recovering after undergoing eye surgery.
He said opposition politics remains a vital component of democratic governance and urged continued commitment to accountability and national development through constructive engagement.
According to him, Nigeria’s political space is too large to be controlled by any individual or group, adding that opposition parties will continue to play their role in national discourse.
Wabara said his visit was on behalf of the PDP leadership and members worldwide to convey goodwill and wishes for a speedy recovery.
He expressed gratitude for George’s successful surgery and prayed for his full recovery and return to active public life.
The PDP BoT chairman described George as a founding figure of the party whose contributions have remained significant in shaping its history and sustaining democratic practice in Nigeria.
He also commended George’s long-standing commitment to the party and the country’s democratic development.
Wabara noted that the visit reflected the solidarity and respect within the PDP leadership structure.
Chief George is expected to return to Nigeria after completing his recovery period.
