Yamal Edges Mbappé To Claim La Liga Player Of The Season

Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal has been named La Liga’s Player of the Season for the 2025-26 campaign, capping another outstanding year for the young star.

The 18-year-old played a pivotal role in FC Barcelona’s successful defence of the league title, scoring 16 goals and providing 11 assists in just 28 appearances under manager Hansi Flick.

Yamal beat a strong field of contenders that included Kylian Mbappé, Pablo Fornals, Nicolas Pépé and Vedat Muriqi to secure the prestigious individual accolade.

The award adds to a successful season for Barcelona, with Flick also receiving the Coach of the Year honour. Goalkeeper Joan Garcia was recognised with the Save of the Season award for his outstanding stop in a match against RCD Espanyol.

Yamal’s latest achievement further underlines his status as one of world football’s brightest talents. The Spain international has now joined the national team camp and will be aiming to add global success to his growing list of honours at the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Having already conquered Spanish football at such a young age, Yamal heads into the tournament as one of the players expected to shape the competition on the world stage.
