The former Managing Director of National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Chief George Moughalu, has emerged candidate of Labour Party (LP) ahead of Anambra State November 8, 2025 poll.

At the Labour Party primary held at Awka, Anambra State capital, the former NIWA MD polled a total of 573 votes to defeat his only rival, Mr John Nwosu that got 19 votes.

The governorship primary, which was witnessed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and observers, was participated by 649 delegates out of which 601 persons were accredited with a record of 592 valid votes cast, and 5 invalid votes.

In his acceptance speech, the party flag bearer, Chief George Moughalu, extended hand of fellowship to his opponent, John Nwosu, noting that with unity among the stakeholders, LP victory would be assured.

Moughalu, who said he was battle ready to defeat the incumbent governor, Chukwuma Soludo of APGA, explained that his capacity and experience in public service and politics was a surebet.

He thanked delegates of the party, as well as national and state working committee member of the party for their efforts towards making the day a reality.

Earlier, the chairman of the LP primary election committee, and returning officer, Barr. Bennett Etanabene, thanked the people for conducting themselves properly throughout the exercise.

He asked the delegates not to rest on their oars after the primary election, but should rally round Moghalu to work for his victory. He also asked the delegates to mobilize voters ahead of the November 8 governorship election, saying that LP has one hundred percent chance of winning the coming Anambra election having two senators, many House of Representatives members and the presidential candidate of the party.
