The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted a series of thunderstorms and rain showers across various regions of the country from Sunday through Tuesday.

According to the weather outlook issued by NiMet on Saturday, thunderstorms are expected to commence on Sunday morning in parts of Adamawa, Taraba, Borno, Kebbi, Kaduna, Gombe, and Yobe States. The northern region will experience more thunderstorms later in the day, while the North Central region is forecasted to have morning rain.

By the afternoon, moderate thunderstorms accompanied by rain will spread to parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Plateau, Benue, and Kogi States. Meanwhile, intermittent rain is expected to affect Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Delta States in the morning. This pattern of intermittent rain will continue into the afternoon and evening across Osun, Oyo, Ekiti, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, Edo, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, and Bayelsa States.

On Monday, morning thunderstorms with rain are forecasted for Kebbi, Sokoto, Bauchi, Kaduna, Borno, Taraba, and Katsina States. As the day progresses, moderate thunderstorms with rain will affect Jigawa, Kebbi, Kaduna, Sokoto, Borno, Zamfara, Yobe, Adamawa, and Katsina States.

In the North Central region, morning rain is anticipated over the FCT and Plateau States, with moderate thunderstorms and rain expected later in the day in the FCT, Niger, and Kogi States. Edo, Rivers, and Delta States will see intermittent rain, while other southern regions will remain cloudy.

Tuesday’s forecast includes morning thunderstorms with rain for Yobe, Adamawa, Borno, and Taraba States, followed by widespread thunderstorms across the northern region later in the day. Rain is expected in the FCT, Niger, and Kwara States during the morning, with cloudy skies prevailing in other regions. Intermittent rain is predicted for the FCT, Kwara, and Niger States in the afternoon and evening. In the southern part of the country, morning rain is expected in Edo, Delta, Imo, and Anambra States, with cloudy conditions elsewhere. Later in the day, intermittent rain will affect Ondo, Edo, Osun, Ekiti, Oyo, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, and Bayelsa States.

NiMet has advised the public to take necessary precautions as strong winds often accompany thunderstorms, and residents should avoid flood-prone areas due to the heightened risk of urban flooding in major cities. The agency also urges the public and airline operators to stay updated with NiMet’s weather forecasts for effective planning and safety measures.
