Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi and defender Christian Akpan have joined Nigeria’s training camp in Lisbon as preparations continue for the international friendly against Portugal.
Iwobi linked up with his teammates on Thursday after missing Nigeria’s recent friendly against Poland, boosting the squad ahead of the encounter with the Portuguese side.
Akpan, who plays for KRC Genk, received his maiden Super Eagles invitation following the withdrawal of several players from the squad. The defender, who remains relatively unknown among many Nigerian football followers, will be hoping to make his senior international debut against Portugal.
The arrival of the duo increases the number of players in camp as head coach and his technical crew continue fine-tuning preparations for the match.
Meanwhile, winger Samuel Chukwueze was expected to join the team on Friday. Chukwueze was unavailable for the Unity Cup invitational tournament in London and the friendly against Poland following the death and burial of his mother.
In a related development, forward Rafiu Durosinmi has been granted permission to leave camp temporarily to attend to urgent personal matters.
A total of 19 players travelled from Warsaw to Lisbon on Thursday after Nigeria’s international friendly against Poland, with more arrivals expected as the Super Eagles step up preparations for the clash against Portugal.
