If you’ve been watching the growing closeness between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and maverick musician/activist Charles Oputa, aka Charly Boy, you might assume it’s a father-son story. It’s not. Rather it’s a connection rooted in inspiration, mentorship, and shared ideals.
For years, “Baba” and Charly Boy kept their admiration private. Lately though, the 89-year-old statesman and the 76-year-old Area Fada have been inseparable, sparking conversations across social media.
The moment that went viral happened months ago when Charly Boy presented Baba with his 89th birthday gift. In the clip, Obasanjo leaned in and gave Charly Boy a respectful kiss on the cheek. That gesture has since become a symbol of their blossoming friendship.
Charly Boy confirmed it himself on Instagram: “AreaFada and Baba don become 5/6. Over likeness dey worry Baba where Charly Boy dey. Over inspiration dey worry Charly Boy where Baba dey.”
For these two legends, age and background don’t count. What matters is a shared love for Nigeria and a fearless drive to speak truth to power.
