ABEOKUTA — The Ogun State Police Command has said a viral video circulating on social media and being linked to Ogun State did not originate from the state.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the command said its preliminary findings indicated that the footage was not recorded in Ogun State or elsewhere in Nigeria.
According to the statement, available information and independent verification efforts suggest that the video was recorded outside Nigeria and had previously appeared online before being recirculated with a different narrative.
The police said the footage, which shows a group of individuals in a bush environment, was originally uploaded several years ago and has recently resurfaced on social media.
Commenting on the development, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, urged members of the public to exercise caution when sharing unverified content online.
“The video currently circulating on social media has not been linked to Ogun State based on findings available to the Command,” he said.
Ojajuni noted that misinformation could create unnecessary anxiety and urged residents to seek information from official and credible sources.
He also stated that the command had no information at the time of the statement indicating that the activities portrayed in the video were taking place in Ogun State.
The Commissioner reassured residents that the police would continue to carry out security operations and maintain vigilance across the state.
He further encouraged members of the public to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information on suspicious activities and to rely on official communication channels for security updates.
The command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged residents to remain vigilant while cooperating with law enforcement agencies.
