A fresh attack in Sabon Gidan Kanar community of Gyel District in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State has left one person dead, and another seriously injured, sources have said.

Sources identified the deceased as Mr. Shedrack Dalyop, 36, from Kuru District, while the injured victim, Mr. Mang Davou, 32, from Gyel District, is currently receiving medical treatment.

The victims were reportedly ambushed by yet-to-be-identified attackers in Sabon Gidan Kanar, a community that has witnessed repeated security breaches in recent weeks, on Sunday.

Confirming the incident, the Berom Youth Moulders-Association, BYM, condemned the attack and described it as another disturbing development in the worsening security situation in the area.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, the association noted that the incident occurred barely days after a similar attack in the same community, which claimed one life and left another person hospitalized.

The group called on Operation Enduring Peace and other security agencies to launch an immediate investigation, arrest those responsible and ensure they are brought to justice.

“BYM calls on Operation Enduring Peace and other security agencies to immediately investigate the attack, arrest the perpetrators and ensure they are brought to justice,” the statement said.

The association expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured victim a speedy recovery.
It also urged residents to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding while security agencies take steps to address the growing insecurity in the area.

“The continued targeting and killing of innocent citizens must not be allowed to persist,” the statement added.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
