ABUJA — Senatorial aspirant for Enugu East Senatorial District on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Okabonye Chukwuani, has called on the party leadership to uphold fairness, justice and internal democracy as it concludes its review of disputes arising from its recent internal processes.
His intervention comes amid heightened attention from party members and stakeholders over the outcome of the review and its implications for the party’s democratic culture ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Chukwuani said no individual should be rewarded for actions that undermine the party’s democratic principles, stressing that aspirants who complied with party guidelines should not be placed at a disadvantage.
According to him, the credibility of the NDC will be measured not by the absence of disagreements, but by its willingness to confront difficult issues honestly and ensure that justice prevails, even when such decisions are inconvenient.
He urged party members and supporters to remain peaceful, law-abiding and committed to the democratic process while the review continues.
“The matter is bigger than any individual aspirant. It is about preserving the integrity of a movement that many Nigerians have come to believe in,” he said.
Chukwuani added that Nigerians and stakeholders are closely watching developments within the party, noting that the decisions taken in the coming days will send a clear signal about the political culture the NDC seeks to promote.
He said the outcome of the review will demonstrate whether the party’s commitment to transparency, accountability and internal democracy extends beyond campaign promises and is reflected in its actions.
According to him, the handling of the matter will also shape public confidence in the party’s ability to manage internal contests fairly and uphold its stated standards in the wider political space.
Expressing confidence in the process, Chukwuani said he believes that truth, fairness and justice will ultimately prevail.
